ABOUT ME
Laura Schirmer
PT, DPT, OCS
My name is Laura, and I am a physical therapist and owner of Lifting Littles Physical Therapy.

I earned my Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Belmont University and since then, I've worked in both orthopedic and pediatric settings and gained experience with a variety of clinical populations.

My love for learning motivates me to pursue the latest research and the best treatment practices. In 2019, I completed an orthopedic residency and became an Orthopedic Certified Specialist. My continuing pediatric education has focused on torticollis and gross motor development for children ages 0-36 months.
Outside of being a physical therapist, I am a mom, a wife, a daughter, and a friend who loves coffee, running, spending time outside, sitting in a hammock with a book, and hanging out with friends.
OUR APPROACH
Physical therapy can be a powerful tool for healing and prevention. Our bodies have an incredible design for healing when they are given the right environment.
From infancy to adulthood, our bodies are complex and always changing to meet our unique stresses, demands and surroundings. Because of this, assessment needs to be detailed, focused, and dynamic.
We offer quality care in the form of one-on-one focused treatment for you and your child throughout your entire treatment plan!

We also offer wellness services because we believe in PREVENTION. Why not learn more about our bodies to prevent injuries instead of waiting until we are already in pain? Our wellness services can save you time, energy, and money down the road.

OUR STORY
Since PT school I have always been torn between the two worlds of
orthopedics and pediatrics within physical therapy. I love the hands-on, manual
therapy of orthopedics and also find joy working with kids and believe that much of our
musculoskeletal foundation is built in the first few years of life. I have always wanted to branch out of the traditional orthopedic outpatient model because treating 3 people at one time is not for me! I wanted to give my patients one-on-one care to allow me to focus on HOW they do each activity and critically think through each case.
These desires for change continued to grow as I worked two jobs in order to treat both kids and adults. Then I got pregnant, and through the experience of becoming a mom I realized how hard this whole process is on your body! Throughout my postpartum journey, I have experienced back pain, neck pain, hip pain and ankle pain. I have encountered roadblocks that impeded getting back into running and have needed my knowledge of therapy to overcome them. This experience sparked my desire to focus my orthopedic skills on coming alongside other moms to help them live pain free and get back to the things they love.

I also experienced my son having mild torticollis and learned so much through actually being the mom trying to include therapy activities into daily routines. I learned so many things about daily childcare routines and home set up that have enabled me to better relate to other mothers and provide practical therapy recommendations. Part of my vision for being a mobile practice is providing people with exercises and ideas for their own unique space and set up. My background in orthopedics gives me a unique perspective and skillset for pediatric treatment. Babies have muscles and joints just like adults! Babies' body structures can become weak, tight, and dysfunctional which can limit progress towards developmental goals. I think it is so important to understand the WHY behind lack of progression towards a milestone or movement.

I am so excited that Lifting Littles gives me the opportunity to combine my passions, focus on each client's unique need with the quality of care that they deserve, and come alongside families so that they can move better together.
